EDCC มุ่งสร้างระบบนิเวศนวัตกรรม เพื่อยกระดับผลิตภัณฑ์จากภูมิปัญญาสมุนไพร
     ศูนย์ความเป็นเลิศด้านการค้นหาตัวยา (Excellent Center for Drug Discovery; ECDD) มุ่งหวังที่จะสร้างระบบนิเวศเพื่อพัฒนาและยกระดับผลิตภัณฑ์จากภูมิปัญญาสมุนไพร ด้วยการนำ Ecosystem Software มาใช้ในการสำรวจและบันทึกข้อมูล ECDD มีเป้าหมายที่จะพัฒนาสารสกัดหยาบและสารบริสุทธิ์จากสมุนไพรไทย ด้วยความมุ่งหวังที่จะเพิ่มมูลค่าและพัฒนาสมุนไพรไทยให้เป็นที่ยอมรับทั่วโลก โดยเริ่มตั้งแต่การทำการทดลองในระดับหลอดทดลอง ตลอดจนร่วมคิดค้นสูตรตำรับเพื่อนำไปพัฒนาเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์จากสมุนไพร ซึ่งนอกจากการพัฒนาด้านการสกัดสารสำคัญจากธรรมชาติและขยายความร่วมมือด้านการวิจัยเพื่อรวบรวมสารประกอบที่มีคุณสมบัติทางชีวภาพแล้ว ยังได้พัฒนาวิธีการวิเคราะห์เพื่อเพิ่มศักยภาพในการทดสอบฤทธิ์ทางชีวภาพ โดยพัฒนาทั้งด้าน Cell-based Assay Platform, Biochemical Assay Platform และ Bacterial Assay Platform รวมถึงการขยายความร่วมมือด้านสัตว์ทดลองและการทดลองทางคลินิกเพิ่มเติม ตลอดจนร่วมมือกับภาคอุตสาหกรรม และถ่ายทอดเทคโนโลยีและองค์ความรู้เพื่อพัฒนาเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์

การศึกษาสารออกฤทธิ์ทางชีวภาพของกระชายขาวต่อต้านเชื้อโรค
     ที่ผ่านมาศูนย์ ECDD ได้มีการศึกษาและทำงานวิจัยทางด้านสมุนไพรมากมาย อาทิ สารสกัดกระชายขาวที่ ECDD เป็นส่วนหนึ่งในคณะวิจัย ซึ่งจากการวิจัยพบว่า สารสกัดกระชายขาวมีสารสำคัญ คือ แพนดูราทินเอ (Panduratin A) และพิโนสโตรบิน (Pinostrobin) ซึ่งมีฤทธิ์ในการต้านเชื้อก่อโรคโควิด-19 ได้ในการวิจัยระดับหลอดทดลอง จึงได้มีการต่อยอดพัฒนาสารสกัดจากกระชายขาวในการศึกษาฤทธิ์ทางชีวภาพ จนพบว่าสารสกัดจากสมุนไพรไทยกระชายขาวมีฤทธิ์ในการยับยั้งเชื้อแบคทีเรีย Helicobacter pylori ที่ก่อโรคมะเร็งกระเพาะอาหารได้ในระดับหลอดทดลอง ในอนาคตจึงมีแผนที่จะพัฒนาต่อยอดสารสกัดกระชายขาว รวมทั้งพัฒนาสารบริสุทธิ์จากธรรมชาติและสารสกัดหยาบจากสมุนไพรไทยเพื่อศึกษาฤทธิ์ทางชีวภาพต่อไป

EDCC aims to create an innovation ecosystem for improving herbal wisdom-based products
     The Excellent Centre for Drug Discovery (ECDD) aims to create an ecosystem for developing and improving herbal wisdom-based products. Ecosystem software is used to survey and record data on herbal wisdom or medicinal recipes obtained from local healers and philosophers in the communities. The ECDD aims to produce raw extracts and pure substances from Thai herbs to increase their value and promote their acceptance worldwide, in which conducting in vitro tests and jointly developing formulas are the first steps in turning them into herbal products. The ECDD has developed analytical methods to enhance the performance of bioactivity tests by developing cell-based assay platforms, biochemical assay platforms, and bacterial assay platforms, expanding cooperation in animal testing and clinical trials, and working with in vitro studies. These efforts are in addition to developing the extraction methods of natural active substances and expanding research cooperation to collect compounds with bioactivities.

Study of bioactive substances of Fingerroot (Boesenbergia rotunda (L.) Mansf.) against pathogens
     The ECDD, as a part of the research team, has previously studied and investigated a variety of herbs, including fingerroot extract. The findings indicated that the active substances present in fingerroot extract are pinostrobin and panduratin A. These substances show antiviral activity against COVID-19, according to in vitro experiments. In addition, Thai fingerroot extract shows antibacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori, a risk factor for stomach cancer, according to an in vitro bioactivity test. To better understand the bioactivities of Thai herbs, the ECDD intends to develop the fingerroot extract in the future, including pure natural ingredients and crude extracts.
